KUALA LUMPUR: Travellers looking for year-end getaways can find attractive deals for Macao on the MATTA.Travel website’s new destination campaign titled “Macao – Hot Destination of the month”.

The online travel portal of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) and the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) are collaborating in the campaign to offer the best travel packages for Macao.

MATTA secretary-general Nigel Wong said buyers can be confident all travel packages on MATTA.Travel are offered by members who are licensed.

He said the campaign coincided with major events in Macao including the Suncity Group 64th Macao Grand Prix in November that boasts one of the world’s few city circuits and the only street routed event that features both car and motorcycle competitions.

“The Macao International Marathon in December is also a hot attraction for foreign tourists along with the attractive Macao Light Festival – Amor Macau,” he said at a press conference.

MGTO general manager Cherry Lee said that although Macao is 10 times smaller than Penang, it has many exciting activities.

“Visitors need at least three nights to take in Macao’s vibe and hospitality. And there are plenty of things to do and see,” said Lee, who added that besides being known for its casinos, Macao is also a family-friendly getaway.

Lee pointed out that 7% of all tourists who visited Macao last year were Muslims.

“We have a handful of halal food centres to cater to Muslims,” she said.

Lee said travel packages ranged from RM1,000 for three days two nights stay for an individual right up to RM5,000.

She added the last quarter of the year is the best time to visit Macao because the weather is perfect.

Effective from Jan 1, 2016, MGTO started using Macao (previously Macau) to promote its tourism sector.
