Rulers listen to briefings on defence, security and the economy

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V attended the 247th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers, held for the second day, at Istana Negara here.

The King was accompanie­d to the meeting by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. It was chaired by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddi­n Idris Shah and attended by all the Malay Rulers or their representa­tives, except for the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir.

Johor was represente­d by Tengku Temenggong Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim; Kelantan by its Regent, Tengku Dr Muhammad Faiz Petra; and Pahang by its Regent, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The meeting started at 10am and the Rulers or representa­tives were accompanie­d by their respective mentris besar, and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak by their chief ministers.

In a statement, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said the Rulers were given a briefing on national defence by Armed Forces Chief Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, on security by the InspectorG­eneral of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun and the economy by director-general of the Economic Planning Unit Datuk Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid.

Syed Danial said other matters, including the appointmen­t of the members of the Education Service Commission and the members of the Advisory Board for the Coordinati­on of Islamic Education, were also discussed.

Matters pertaining to Islam, including views on the laws agreed at a Special Conference and the appointmen­t of members of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs, were also discussed at the meeting. — Bernama
