Umno blogger claims trial to insulting Puteri leader

KLANG: Blogger and Umno member Datuk Zaharin Mohd Yassin claimed trial at a Sessions Court here to making an offensive statement against a Puteri Umno leader last year.

The 65-year-old, whose real name is Abd Zarin Mohd Yasin, was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) with allegedly using an Internet application to voluntarily make the offensive statement.

The charge said Abd Zarin posted the statement on his Facebook page on Oct 8, 2016 at 8.49pm, which was read at 9pm.

The charge under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), punishable under Section 233(3) of the same Act and carries a maximum RM50,000 fine or up to a year’s jail, or both, upon conviction.
