Putting problem

Gavin has trouble holing his shots as Danny and Nicholas fare worse

-

TOP Malaysian golfer Gavin Kyle Green birdied the final hole to finish with a one-under 71 for the day – moving him to level par at the halfway stage of the CIMB Classic.

The Asian Tour Order of Merit leader mixed four birdies with three bogeys to be in joint 55th spot with a two-day total of even-par 144 on a rain-soaked second round at the TPC Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The 23-year-old Gavin, who lifted his first Asian Tour title at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters early this month, was left kicking himself for missing a lot of putts.

“No putts were going in and I couldn’t do anything. I was losing patience. It’s so annoying to miss those putts. I was hitting it solid and giving myself a lot of chances but they were just not going in. It was one of those days,” he said.

Gavin, however, is keeping his chin up and hopes that things will work out over the next two days.

“Hopefully, it (the turnaround) will come at some point in this tournament.

“Something is not right with my putting but I don’t know what it is.

“Hopefully, I can figure it out by tomorrow (today) because I’m hitting it good. Just need some putts to drop.

“I had a lots of good chances but nothing went in. It’s so annoying.”

Asked what he did during the lengthy rain delay, Gavin said: “I had fun. I just chilled with the family and ate a lot.”

Two-time Asian Tour winner Danny Chia could not match his opening effort as the 44-year-old posted a disappointing three-over 75 to share 62nd spot with compatriot Nicholas Fung.

Sabah-born Nicholas returned a 73, no thanks to a double bogey six on the 17th, to finish with a two-day total of one-over 145.
