PETALING JAYA: The legality of the adoption of a 17-year-old girl involved in a sexual abuse case against her adoptive father is being investigated.

Sources said the investigation was part of the police probe into the girl’s sexual abuse claims against the suspect, a pastor.

It is learnt that the police would also meet with members of the suspect’s family to record their statements. Sources also claimed that the suspect was based in a church in Puchong.

Yesterday, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the suspect had been remanded until Sunday.

The suspect was believed to have surrendered himself at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.

“As of now, there is only one victim. A complete medical examination has yet to be completed (on the victim) and we are still waiting for the full report from the hospital,” he said when met at the police headquarters yesterday.

“The victim is currently under the care of the Welfare Department, as per our protocol,” he said, urging the public to not speculate on the case.

“We are still investigating whether the suspect has prior offences or police records,” ACP Zani said.

Last week, the girl had run away from the home and lodged a police report about the abuse.

It was learnt that the girl was staying with the pastor, now in his late 40s, since she was nine, after her father died and her mother returned to China.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

In another case, a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually abused by her stepfather, was beaten by him after she informed her mother about what happened.

“On Oct 17, the victim confided in her mother that her 35-year-old stepfather had been sexually abus- ing her. She told the mother that he had kissed her on her neck, and touched her private parts when the mum was not home,” said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussoff.

The next day, at about 10am, the victim was attacked by the suspect.

“The suspect kicked the victim on her chest because she had told her mother about the incident,” said ACP Ahmad Dzaffir.

Following a report made by the mother, the police caught the suspect at his house in Balakong yesterday. The suspect is remanded until tomorrow.
