DAP gives highest honour to party pioneer

FORMER Perak DAP chairman Lau Dak Kee ( pic), who passed away on Monday, was given the highest honour when party leaders draped the coffin with a party flag as a mark of respect.

China Press reported that the DAP veteran was laid to rest in Kwangsi Clan Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur, after hundreds of relatives, DAP members and leaders paid their last respects at his house in Ipoh, Perak on Wednesday.

Lau, one of the party’s founding pioneers, was elected Member of Parliament twice and was a threeterm assemblyma­n.

Lau passed away at the age of 74 at his house on Monday morning, leaving behind his 68-year-old wife and three sons, aged between 34 and 38.

In his eulogy, DAP secretaryg­eneral Lim Guan Eng said the passing of Lau was a loss to the party. He urged young party members to remember Lau’s contributi­ons.

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who was at the funeral, said Lau was his comrade for many years and he remembers him as a jovial person.

> China Press also reported that a man found the decomposed body of his female housemate stuffed in a large suitcase.

The man, who rented a room above a restaurant in Jalan Maxwell in Rawang, Selangor, detected a stench from the room on Sunday.

Upon checking, he found her decomposed body in the suitcase.

The daily reported that the woman was a tenant.

Police believed the woman, who had no identifica­tion papers, had died several days earlier.

The case is being investigat­ed for murder.
