OD Racing score double win in Blancpain Series

-

PETALING JAYA: OD Racing Team, Malaysia’s first homegrown GT3 outfit, notched a double delight in the Blancpain GT Series Asia at the newly-built Zhejiang Circuit in China.

The team brought home the Silver Cup title through Malaysianborn GT3 racer Mitch Gilbert and Indian racer Aditya Patel.

The consistent pace of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 ensured OD Racing became the first team to chalk a double victory in the series.

Patel set the second fastest time in qualifying for Round 11 while Gilbert claimed pole for Round 12.

Gilbert came close to winning the overall drivers’ title after he finished a point behind championship winner Hunter Abbott of England (161 points).

The 23-year-old was delighted with the positive results over the weekend.

“It was a good weekend. Two wins and we came within a point of the championship. The weather was terrible but we did a good job.

“It’s a great way to end the year. Special thanks to our sponsors and the whole OD Racing crew and fans for believing in us. Can’t wait for the 2018 season,” said Gilbert.

OD Racing managing director Datuk Bernard Teo said it has been an amazing year for them.

“The decision to join the Blancpain Series came about pretty late but right from the start we have managed the first podiums with a win and a second place (at Sepang).

“Despite some setbacks, no one gave up. The crew and drivers pushed on right to the last race in Zhejiang where we picked up 50 points in one weekend.”
