Fearless mum braves fire to save her children

-

A SINGLE mother is in the intensive care unit of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak, after saving her three children from a fire in their Teluk Intan home.

Sin Chew Daily reported that Wu Mei Li, 43, suffered 70% burns on her body after she braved the flames to get her children out of the house.

She had smelled something odd before an explosion – possibly caused by a gas leak – rocked the front part of the house at 2.30am on Wednesday.

Neighbours heard the blast and pulled Wu out to safety, but she rushed back in to rescue her sleeping children, aged 10 to 14.

She managed to get them out through the back door.

Wu remains unconscious while her children are staying with a relative.

She is the sole breadwinner of the family, working at a coffee shop. Her husband died three years ago.

The townsfolk have launched a fundraising campaign to help her.

> China Press reported that Hong Kong singer Joey Yung posted a picture on Weibo in remembrance of her late mentor Roman Tam.

The 4am post on Thursday showed a picture of her holding hands with Tam, who died of liver cancer in 2002, with the caption “In My Life”.

Many fans were moved by the gesture as it was the 15th anniversary of Tam’s death.

Tam gained legendary status for his contributions to Hong Kong’s entertainment industry.
