Amanah passes resolution to appoint Anwar as PM

-

ALOR SETAR: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has endorsed a resolution to appoint jailed Pakatan Harapan de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, if the Opposition captures Putrajaya in the general election.

The resolution, approved by 898 delegates without debate, was proposed by the Johor Amanah division during Amanah’s National Convention here.

A resolution for an interim prime minister to be appointed before Anwar is pardoned for his fiveyear sodomy conviction was also passed without debate.

The convention also approved a resolution by the party’s Bukit Bendera division to allow Penangborn party president Mohamad Sabu and vicepresident Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa to contest in the state.

Delegates also endorsed a resolution to table three Bills in Parliament to tackle prejudice, racism and takfiri in the country.

The definition of takfiri is a Muslim who accuses another Muslim of apostasy.

The three Bills in the resolution were the Hate Crime against Race and Religion Bill, the Equality Bill, and the Commission of National Harmony Bill.

Dr Mujahid explained the Bills were necessary due to several recent incidents of racial and religious bigotry.

Dr Mujahid, who is Parit Buntar MP, said national harmony would be undermined if racial politics and religion continued to be exploited.

“With these three Bills, those who incite racial and religious hate will be committing a crime.

“We hope that problems arising from racial and religious sentiments can be addressed in a proactive manner,” he said.

He added that freedom of speech would be maintained as long it was not manipulated to destroy national harmony and unity.

The resolution was supported by Tanjung Malim Amanah delegate Aminuddin Zulkipli, who described the Bills as antidiscriminatory measures.

“This is a golden opportunity for Amanah to prove that we are smart in lawmaking before forming the next government,” he said.
