‘Partying cops’ at entertainment centre transferred out of Johor

-

JOHOR BARU: The seven policemen filmed at a Muar entertainment centre with a suspected gambling kingpin have been transferred to other parts of the country.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said one of them, a detective corporal, has been dismissed.

The policemen in the video are an inspector from the Pagoh police station, a corporal, four lance corporals and the former detective corporal.

“Bukit Aman issued the (transfer) instructions after the eight-second video clip went viral on Facebook on Oct 8,” Comm Mohd Khalil said after attending the Johor Police Contingent monthly assembly at its headquarters here yesterday.

He said a disciplinary investigation was conducted and its findings are pending.

It was reported in The Star on Oct 10 that the Johor police had submitted a report on the matter to Bukit Aman, and the seven policemen were initially transferred to the Johor Police Contingent after the video went viral.

On a separate case, Comm Mohd Khalil said five suspects were arrested in connection with a shooting case at a coffee shop in Pekan Bukit Gambir, Tangkak.

The suspects are acquaintances of the two victims, who were shot during the 4am incident on Friday by a man wearing a full-face helmet.

The five, in their 30s and 40s, were detained on Saturday and have been remanded until Friday to help with the investigation.

“The case could be related to drugs,” Comm Mohd Khalil said.

It was reported that two men in their 30s were having drinks with friends at the coffee shop when they were shot at close range.

The attacker fired seven shots from a semi-automatic pistol.

The victims survived and were rushed to hospitals in Muar and Melaka.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 3(1) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
