MIC confident of contesting in Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat

-

KUANTAN: The Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat is being hotly pursued by Barisan Nasional component MIC and my PPP but the state MIC is confident it will have the upper hand.

Pahang MIC chairman Datuk R. Goonasakaren, who is also special officer to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, said Adnan had assured that Cameron Highlands would remain with MIC.

“The Regent of Pahang and the Mentri Besar have attended many programmes in Cameron Highlands and Adnan had mentioned that this seat is MIC’s. He had also asked our division to work hard in serving the people there.

“So I have no idea why myPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas wants to create problems now. He says he has been serving the Cameron Highlands community for the past two to three years but we have never seen him there.

“He only showed up over the past two to three months,” Goonasakaren said here yesterday.

This bickering has led to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak calling for the issue to be resolved in the spirit of consensus among the Barisan component parties.

“Kayveas is going against the principles of Barisan as only the Prime Minister, MIC president and the Mentri Besar can decide. My view is that this should have been discussed internally,” he said.

Goonasekaren said there was very good support from the Chinese and Indian communities, even in the Tanah Rata state seat where Barisan lost.
