Headmaster wins tickets to Luang Prabang

- By CHESTER CHIN

PETALING JAYA: The upcoming school holidays will be a memorable one for a secondary school principal who is planning to fly away to Laos.

SMJK Pulau Sebang principal Tee Kim Thieng is the second winner of The Star’s Fly Away Giveaway, which runs every Saturday for the month of October.

The 54-year-old from Alor Gajah, Melaka, won a pair of flight tickets courtesy of AirAsia, to the ancient former Laotian capital of Luang Prabang.

“The win was unexpected. Of course, I am very excited,” said the educator, who specialises in Science and Physics.

Tee joined the contest at the request of his wife, who had urged the whole family to take part after reading a New Zealand travel story in Star2.

“My wife kept reminding me not to miss any calls after I participated in the contest,” he said with a laugh.

Although Tee isn’t an avid traveller, he is looking forward to the trip to Luang Prabang with his wife (also a teacher) and three children.

“I would like to do some sightseeing and try the food. I heard that Luang Prabang is a nice place to visit,” he said in a phone interview.

As a longtime reader of The Star, Tee occasionally uses the newspaper to supplement his lessons, adding that his colleagues who teach English regularly use The Star as a teaching tool.

“The Star covers a wide range of topics. Education-wise, there are many things to be learnt from the newspaper,” he said.

Tee was unable to attend the prize-giving ceremony so his 21-year-old daughter Erryna Tee Tze Tze, who also joined the contest, took his place.

“My parents don’t really travel much, so I’m really happy that we will be taking this holiday together,” she said when met at Menara Star, adding that she would be doing the holiday planning for the family.

The Star’s Fly Away Giveaway contest gives readers a chance to win flight tickets to different destinations every week, courtesy of the AirAsia Group.

A pair of flight tickets to Shanghai, China, worth RM7,455 is currently up for grabs. Visit Star2.com and search for the article “Thailand with a difference: Community-based tourism” for entry details.

Be in the running this Saturday for the last pair of tickets to another exciting destination.
