Take serious action on illegal gambling

-

ILLEGAL gambling activities whether online or in shopping outlets have reached new heights.

We can spot these activities quite easily in shops and kopitiam in towns as well as housing areas.

Some are disguised as telephone outlets or family entertainment centres.

Illegal gambling syndicates expand their sales network by recruiting bookies or runners, some of whom are young school-leavers, and many offer credit to their clients.

I believe the main reason they are thriving is because society is just turning a blind eye to them.

Most people might feel that illegal gambling is not a big issue but I believe it will cost our society enormously in the long run.

When people condone illegal activities, their sense of right and wrong might be compromised.

What’s even more worrying is that this negative attitude may be passed on to the future generation.

As for the money collected from these illegal activities, chances are most of it would be rolled back into other underground activities such as illegal entertainment centres, loanshark business and even drug trafficking and selling, all of which would drag down our society and country as a whole.

We must curb these activities now before they become even worse.

For those involved, you can make a start by stopping your dealings with illegal gambling operators.

To all members of the public, please cooperate with the law enforcers so that they can go after the illegal gambling operators more efficiently.

It is our obligation to stop this illegal business once and for all.
