Wee: DAP out to sabotage MCA’s efforts for Chinese education

KUALA LUMPUR: “DAP is suffering from denial syndrome” as can be seen by its repeated put-downs of MCA’s efforts to better Chinese education, said MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

He was responding to several DAP leaders’ – particularly DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s – criticisms that the recent approval for 10 new Chinese primary schools and the relocation of six others was an empty promise by the Government.

“It is not rocket science to understand the approval process for the schools because Lim is already a ‘rocket chief minister’,” he said, referring to the DAP logo.

Dr Wee lambasted Lim, claiming that the Penang Chief Minister was distorting facts and using sentiment to hoodwink the Chinese community into supporting DAP.

“He is trying to throw spanners into the works and DAP is in denial,” Dr Wee told a press conference at Wisma MCA.

On Thursday, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid announced the approval for the construction of the new schools and relocation of the under-utilised ones, for which the MCA had been instrumental in getting.

At the press conference yesterday, Dr Wee showed to the media several geospatial maps and plans identifying the locations of the new schools and new locations of the others.

“MCA worked hard for more than a year to make this a reality for the benefit of the Chinese community, and the DAP is trying to sabotage it,” he said.

Dr Wee said that over the last 17 years, MCA has a track record of helping to build and relocate 99 Chinese schools.

“What has DAP done? They have not helped build even one school,” he said.

Dr Wee also said MCA would use social media to counter DAP’s allegations on the matter.
