Chinese community lauds Indian tycoon patron

BUSINESSMA­N K. Karthigasa­n is known for extending his generosity across the racial divide, Sin Chew Daily reported.

His most prominent gift – a half million ringgit contributi­on to SM Chong Hwa in Kuantan – became major news in Chinese dailies.

The businessma­n from Taiping, Perak, has given aid to numerous organisati­ons, temples and schools, including the Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Malaysia ( Hua Zong) and SM Chong Hwa.

Karthigasa­n is also the first Malaysian Indian to be appointed as a Hua Zong building patron.

The 60-year-old said he is committed to his philanthro­py, with no plans to quit any time soon.

> Oriental Daily reported that Jasmine Tan, wife of Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-Fat, has finally opened up over their childless status after 31 years together.

In an interview, a tearful Tan talked about having suffered a fullterm miscarriag­e in May 1991.

The Singaporea­n said it took her years to talk about the incident, and while they had no children of their own, they showed their affection by helping those in need.

Tan also thanked Chow for taking good care of her for the 31 years they have been married.

> Guang Ming Daily reported that Taiwanese artiste Annie Yi hopes to have another child in the near future.

Yi, who married Chinese actor Qin Hao in 2015, gave birth to a baby girl last year.

The 46-year-old artiste also has a 14-year-old son with her ex-husband, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Harlem Yu.

Yi said she has cut down on her workload to spend more time with her family.
