JITRA: A man believed to be high on drugs allegedly attacked his elderly parents with a saw and spirit level, causing them serious injury, at their house in Kampung Baru Sri Muda in Sungai Korok here.

After the incident, Tom Wahid, 64, who was bleeding from the face, managed to seek help at a neigh- bour’s house while her husband Mohd Tarmizi Abdul Wahid, 67, was found lying on the floor in the kitchen, according to police.

Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said police received information about the incident at noon yesterday.

“A 28-year-old man was found squatting in front of the house.

“We arrested him and seized a saw and a spirit level at the scene,” he said.

The suspect’s mother, Supt Mohd Ismail said, was cooking in the kitchen when the son ticked her off for reporting him to the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) the day before, causing him to be arrested. He then attacked his parents. “The mother sustained injury to her right cheek and shoulder, and bruises all over her body. She also fractured her right thumb.

“The father suffered internal bleeding,” said Supt Mohd Ismail, adding that the couple are receiving treatment at the hospital.

A neighbour, Suhaidi Said, 28, who is a security guard, said AADK personnel detained the suspect at about 9am on Tuesday but he was released at 9pm the same day.

“He ran amok and assaulted the mum with a saw,” he said, adding that the suspect, who was released from a drug rehabilitation centre a few months ago, was jobless.

“We believe he was high on drugs when he attacked his parents,” said Suhaidi.

He added that the couple live there with their two sons, including the suspect.

Police say the suspect will be remanded to help in the investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
