- By KNG ZHENG GUAN

PETALING JAYA: The newly-formed men’s doubles pairs of Goh V ShemTeo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin-Tan Wee Kiong have a second chance to get their act right in an international tournament.

Both V Shem-Ee Yi and Yew Sin-Wee Kiong, who were paired up in September, only managed a secondround appearance at the French Open last week.

And they look to be getting back on the right track after storming into the second round of the Bitburger Open yesterday.

V Shem-Ee Yi needed just 30 minutes to down Frenchmen Bastian Kersaudy-Julien Maio 21-12, 21-16 in the first round at the Saarlandhalle Arena, Saarbrucken, Germany.

The sixth seeds will meet China’s He Jiting-Tan Qiang for a place in the quarter-finals.

Yew Sin-Wee Kiong didn’t even have to lift their racquets as their German opponents Peter Lang-Thomas Legleitner conceded a walkover.

Yew Sin-Wee Kiong will meet either Daniel Benz-Andreas Benz of Germany or Mathias Bay Smidt-Frederik Sogaard of Denmark in the second round.

Women’s singles shutter Soniia Cheah, however, suffered yet another disappointing first-round exit.

The world No. 28 lost 23-25, 17-21 to world No. 93 Yvonne Li of Germany.

It was the SEA Games silver medallist’s second straight first-round loss after going down to South Korea’s Sung Ji-hyun at the French Open.

?? ?? Not so lucky: Soniia Cheah lost 23-25, 17-21 to Yvonne Li of Germany in the first round yesterday.
