ALOR SETAR: A 67-year-old man who was seriously hurt after allegedly being attacked by his son with a saw and spirit level died at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here.

Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said Mohd Tarmizi Abdul Hamid, from Kampung Baru Sri Muda, died at 1.30am yesterday.

He said Mohd Tarmizi and his wife Tom Wahid, 64, were allegedly attacked by their 28-year-old son, identified as Mohd Ridzuan, in the kitchen of their house.

“The case is now classified under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.

“The post-mortem result shows that Mohd Tarmizi died of a heart attack,” Supt Mohd Ismail said in a statement yesterday.

Mohd Tarmizi’s other children were too distraught to speak to jour- nalists when they turned up to claim his body at the hospital at 4.50pm.

One of them, however, told journalists that their mother was in stable condition.

Magistrate court assistant registrar Jamaludin Elias granted a remand order for seven days, until Nov 8, against the suspect to allow police to carry out further investigations.

It was reported that Tom, who was bleeding from the face, managed to seek help at a neighbour’s house.

Her husband was found lying on the floor in the kitchen following the attack.

Their son is believed to have been high on drugs.

Police said a 28-year-old man found squatting in front of the house was arrested.

Police also seized a saw and a spirit level at the scene.

It was also reported that just before the attack, the man’s mother was cooking in the kitchen when he ticked her off for reporting him to the National Anti-Drug Agency.

The post-mortem result shows that Mohd Tarmizi died of a heart attack.
