Businessman accused of taking amphetamine at district police headquarters
Datuk Seri who claimed trial to assaulting three Rela personnel now facing drug charge.
KUALA LUMPUR: A Datuk Seri who claimed trial to assaulting three Rela personnel recently pleaded not guilty to using amphetamine and methamphetamine at a district police headquarters.
Liow Soon Hee, 29, was accused of committing the offence at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Ampang district police headquarters here, at about 5pm on Oct 30.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihanan Abdul Razak offered bail at RM6,000 in one surety at the magistrate’s court in Ampang yesterday.
Magistrate Haslinda A. Raof allowed bail at RM3,000 in one surety pending mention on Dec 14.
Earlier in the morning at another magistrate’s court, Liow was charged with testing positive for methaphetamine in his urine three years ago.
The 29-year-old had his urine tested at a toilet in the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Dang Wangi police district headquarters, at 9.40pm on Feb 1, 2014.
He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Akmal Anuar offered bail at RM4,000 in one surety.
Liow’s counsel Farhana Abd Halim said that her client was a businessman and asked for a reasonable bail as her client had been accused at Ampang court for other charges previously.
Magistrate Namirah Hanum Mohamed Albaki fixed bail at RM2,000 in one surety.
She also ordered Liow to report to the nearest police station once a month pending disposal of the case.
The court set Dec 4 for mention.
On Nov 3, the businessman claimed trial at a Sessions Court to attacking Melvin Cheong, 19, who was on duty as a Rela member, and was charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code.
Liow was also accused of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Lee Weng Poh, 27, and was charged under Section 325 of the same Code. The accused also faces another two counts of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, in which he is charged with causing hurt to Leong Jun Jie, 21, and Cheong.
The offences were allegedly committed at Kou Ong Yah Temple compound, Jalan Merdeka, Kampung Baru Ampang in Ampang at about 6.30am on Oct 27.
