PCTH to give RM3,000 each to kin of deceased victims

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Chinese Town Hall (PCTH) will be distributi­ng RM3,000 each to families of the seven deceased victims and the three old folks homes affected by the devastatin­g floods.

It’s chairman Datuk Khor Teng How said they can collect the financial aid at 11am on Friday at the PCTH office at Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling here.

“They will be the first batch of recipients to receive assistance from our disaster relief fund,” he said.

Two of the old folks homes are located at Jalan P Ramlee while another is in Relau.

Khor added that public donations were welcome to help more flood victims across the state.

“Donations of RM1,000 or above are tax-exempted.

“We urge the public to contribute generously to help the displaced victims rebuild their homes,” said Khor to reporters during the press conference held here.

PCTH had also kickstarte­d the drive with a contributi­on of RM100,000, RM50,000 of which was donated by Khor, PCTH adviser Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong and PCTH deputy chairman Tan Sri Tan Khoon Hai.

Khor said a minumum of RM500 would be given to families whose homes were affected by the flood at the end of the month, and priority would be given to those currently eligible for the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M).

Flood victims can get the applicatio­n forms for the financial aid at the PCTH office from now till next Monday.

Separately, the Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Malaysia ( Hua Zong) has raised over RM100,000 to help the Penang flood victims.

Its president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah said the money was donated by Chinese leaders and Chinese Assembly Halls from respective states.

Hua Zong will continue to raise funds until Friday.

The money will be distribute­d to the needy by PCTH.
