> Exam fever

Fifth formers all across the country started their SPM examination yesterday. Hopefully, the hard work they have put in over the past year will not be a waste. A big thank you to all the teachers who have prepared them for it. – MAM

> Flood issues

Penang, Mother Nature has spoken. You are destroying the hills that have existed for thousands of years for greed.

Let us all put our political and religious beliefs aside and help Penang back on its feet. – Murali Sundareson

The Meteorological Department should be proactive and warn us before the storm rather than issue explanations and further warnings after the fact.

The flood situation in Penang and Kedah is very bad and worrisome. All quarters should close ranks to deal with the aftermath of the disaster. Put aside differences in the spirit of 1Malaysia. – Subra

I praise and thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for his generous heart to help the people affected by the flood in Penang. May god bless Datuk Seri. – Davan Batu Caves

> Save convent schools

Convent schools have been the bedrock of the teaching of English. Closing these schools would be a step backward. – Jhonnie Bleu

It is sad to note the impending closure of the Convent Light Street and Convent Pulau Tikus schools. Mission schools have an important role to play in providing wholesome education. My alma mater, ACS Ipoh, is still going strong after 120 years and my class of 72/84 just contributed towards refurbishing its swimming pool. More ex-students should pool resources to maintain and upgrade mission schools. Let them live on and thrive. – Beatle No.5

> Health check

Looking at the latest statistics on HIV/AIDS, in Malaysia many housewives were infected by their husbands. In today’s lifestyle, many youngsters would have been involved in unprotected sex before marriage. It would be a good idea to have a blood test done (for both parties) before marriage. It’s also about protecting an innocent party. Let’s get real on what’s happening in the world today.

> Football talk

I like a spirited game but the second half of the Kedah v Johor Malaysia Cup final was very spiteful. Surely this is not the example our professional football players want to portray. Worse still, the Kedah players exhibited a disgraceful disregard for the referee in the second half when they fell behind. They should be investigated for their poor conduct. No wonder our football is in such a poor state. – JC
