Ministry proposes extra allowances for police personnel

-

THE Home Ministry has submitted 13 proposed additional allowances for rank and file police personnel for a review by the Public Service Department (PSD).

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Masir Kujat said the extra allowances were aimed at helping police personnel cope with the rising cost of living.

“The PSD will review the proposed allowances, and if approved, it will help the personnel as there will be incentives based on their ranks,” he told Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman (PKR - Indera Mahkota).

Masir added that the Government was also implementing various initiatives to care for the welfare of police personnel and their families.

He noted that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had been allocated RM30.5mil for maintenance of housing quarters, offices and other basic facilities.

“We are also aware of many retired policemen who are still unable to buy houses, hence in the tabling of Budget 2018, the Prime Minister had announced 10,000 units of civil servants housing (Perumahan Penjawat Awam 1Malaysia-PDRM) that will be tailored to the salary scales of police personnel.

“We have also set up a health screening centre in Bukit Aman as a pilot project for police personnel to get early treatment for non-chronic diseases.

“This will help them reduce dependence on private healthcare centres. This initiative will be expanded nationwide in the future,” he said.

Other efforts are the setting-up of nurseries at PDRM complexes, transit homes for family members who follow personnel when they receive treatment at the health screening centres, 19 dialysis centres that provide free service to personnel, as well as aid for disabled next-of-kin.

Masir advised the personnel to watch their spending and not waste their money on wasteful items.
