Break-up drives man to attempt suicide

-

A SUICIDAL man suffered serious injuries after he slipped from his mother’s grip and fell from the fourth floor of their apartment.

Major Chinese dailies reported that the 22-year-old, known only as Lin from Kaohsiung in Taiwan, threatened to jump from the balcony of their apartment at about 5.25am on Thursday.

He was said to be depressed after breaking up with his girlfriend and was drinking before attempting to commit suicide.

When several police officers and firefighters arrived after receiving the mother’s distress call, they carefully approached the unit without provoking Lin.

The mother then shouted for them to come in quickly and that the door was not locked.

It was at that moment that Lin attempted to leap from the balcony but his mother caught his arm.

However, she could not hold on for long, and eventually watched her son slip from her grip and fall onto the parking lot below before the rescue team could inflate an air cushion in time to break his fall.

Lin survived the fall with fractures to his arm, pelvic bone and damage to his liver and a lung.

He has been admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit.

> Nanyang Siang Pau reported that a robber forced a woman to empty her WeChat Wallet and trans- fer the money to him by scanning his QR code.

The Nov 1 incident in Ningbo, China happened when the knife-wielding masked man accosted the woman while she was walking through an alley.

However, he was soon arrested by the local police after the transfer record on the woman’s smartphone gave him away, as all WeChat Wallet accounts require real personal details upon registration.
