Drug gang operating from ‘fortified’ shoplot in Chow Kit

-

A GANG of drug traffickers operating in Chow Kit has “fortified” their premises at a double-storey shoplot, barring entrance with two sets of grille doors and installing a sophisticated CCTV system, reported Metro Ahad.

The doors were also secured with four sets of locks.

It was understood that those behind the gang never showed themselves to the public and would conduct transactions via a hole through the grille door.

The daily noted that the so-called “fort”, which had been operating for a year, was located only some 150m from the Chow Kit police station.

A reporter from the daily, who tagged along on a recent raid by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), said authorities had to use a special metal cutting tool to open the grille doors.

Dang Wangi AADK officer Mohamad Hanif Omar said that initially, they had only taken an ordinary cutter with them.

“We took almost 30 minutes to cut the two grille doors to gain access into the premises. While we were working to cut the doors, we heard someone unlocking a door from the other side.

“When we finally gained access, the suspects had all fled,” he said, adding that several drug addicts in the area were detained.

“The addicts admitted to getting their supply from the premises,” said Mohamad Hanif, adding that the six-room unit was installed with six CCTV cameras.

> The daily also reported that singer Yuna was still not ready to reveal the date of her wedding to Adam Sinclair despite having shared on Twitter the material for her wedding gown.

Yuna, 31, whose real name is Yunalis Mat Zara’ai, uploaded her latest status on Twitter on Saturday morning.

When contacted, Yuna’s manager Wawa said the singer, who is based in the United States, would hold a press conference to announce the wedding date later.

Yuna got engaged to Sinclair on Aug 5.

The couple got to know each other during the filming of a television commercial in early 2013.
