Stop with the doomsday predictions and panic

-

OF late, we Penangites have had a deluge of unwanted natural and man-made disasters.

What we don’t need now are the constant reminders from doomsday sayers who are irritatingly harping on the next huge deluge saying prepare for the worst which is yet to come.

They cite bad weather sightings heading to Penang or the many “warning” from our “expert” weathermen as their official and unofficial sources.

After the catastrophic torrential rainfall and unprecedented flooding statewide, everyone has become a weather expert, predicting the time the rain is going to belt down and flood the island again.

Has the weather pattern suddenly changed so drastically that the rainy weather is now year-long if the “experts” are to be believed?

What happened to the May to September and November to March monsoon seasons that we learned about in school?

Admittedly we have had unusually heavier than normal rainfall and drier than usual dry seasons as has happened many times before, causing floods and long drawn-out drought with water supply at worrisome levels.

But let’s get real and not cause unnecessary anxiety and panic to those who have been adversely affected.

Since the big flood two weeks ago, we have had fine weather except for the odd rainfall or two.

People are just picking up the pieces without having to worry about the “bad weather news” that has been circling in the mass media.
