Malaysia suffer second straight defeat after going down to Bangladesh

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s now two matches and two defeats for Malaysia in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19 tournament.

Malaysia, who lost by 202 runs to defending champions India in a Group A match last Friday, went down by 262 runs to Bangladesh in the 50-over competitio­n at the Bayuemas Oval in Klang yesterday.

Malaysian won the toss and decided to bowl.

The Bangladesh­i batsmen were in top form and scored 335 runs with six wickets down.

Malaysia needed to score 336 runs to win the match but could only manage a poor 73 runs.

It was the second straig ht win for Bangladesh, who had beaten Nepal by seven wickets last Saturday.

Bangladesh top the group and will wrap up their fixtures against threetime champions India today.

India, who fell to a shock 19-run loss to Nepal on Sunday, must beat Bangladesh today to earn a place in the semi-finals.

Malaysia will meet Nepal at the Bayuemas Oval in Klang today.

In Group B, Pakistan checked into the semi-finals after defeating Sri Lanka by three wickets at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Puchong for their second win.

Pakistan were stunned by newcomers Afghanista­n by seven wickets in the opening match last Friday but bounced back to beat the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 226 runs on Sunday.

Sri Lanka have also advanced to the semi- finals, having beaten UAE by seven wickets last Friday and Afghanista­n by 61 runs last Saturday.
