Illegal nabbed for attempted robbery

TAWAU: A 37-year-old illegal immigrant who tried to rob a convenienc­e store in Jalan Kuhara here at midnight yesterday was arrested by police.

District police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said the suspect barged into the store wearing a mask and motorcycle helmet, and pointed a samurai sword at the counter staff, demanding money.

A police team on crime prevention patrol managed to apprehend the suspect after a short struggle.

Police seized the sword, a screwdrive­r and mask from him.

Fadil said the suspect tested positive for syabu and has a police record for a drug offence and illegal entry. He was deported to the Philippine­s in 2006. — Bernama
