‘Branch and division disarray delaying Pribumi AGM’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: “Poor structuring” at branch and division levels caused the delay in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s holding of its first annual general meeting (AGM), said its chairman.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the branches and divisions have yet to hold their respective meetings, which is a requirement before the AGM can take place.

“At the moment, although we have members, they have not been organised into branches and some divisions are not properly organised yet.

“So, we cannot determine who will attend the meeting (AGM),” he told reporters at the Opposition Leader’s office in Parliament yesterday.

Dr Mahathir, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman, rejected talk that Pribumi does not have enough members to hold its inaugural AGM.

“The numbers are many. But the organisational (structures) in our division and branches are not yet complete, especially at the branch level,” he said.

He said Pribumi may postpone the AGM, which is provided for under its constitution.

He lamented that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) was dragging its feet over the approval of Pakatan’s registration as a formal coalition.

“So far, we have yet to get any reaction from RoS on whether our application is approved or rejected.”

Dr Mahathir said he had planned to meet Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Minister, yesterday on the issue but could not.

He also said Pakatan would hold a special leaders retreat on Dec 1 and 2 to address several nagging issues.
