> Mothers for health

Mothers can play a very important role in diabetes prevention. Many young children are fond of sugary food, especially carbonated drinks which contain large amounts of sugar. If mothers prepare healthy drinks and food for the family, then we can be a healthier society and nation. Diabetes kills many people in slow motion. – N.V. Subbarow, Penang

> Be serious

Stop being lenient on bankruptcy, failure to pay PTPTN loans and giving discounts to summonses. Are we promoting a culture of apathy and irresponsibility?

> Minnows take over

The giants of Asian cricket and three-time champions India could not make the semi-finals of the Under-19 Asia Cup cricket tournament. It is quite surprising that Nepal, a country of rocks and mountains, can improve their game so fast. When Malaysia started playing cricket, the Nepalese did not know what the game was. Even war-torn Afghanistan has gone a few steps ahead of Malaysia. We’ve got to improve in all games. In football, we were even with Korea and Japan once and now they are way ahead of us. – Masri Abdullah, Kajang

> Of parents and teachers

It is really frightening to think of the mother who forced her two young girls to ‘sleep with Bangladeshi men’. None of us condone her act but it points clearly to the fact that many families find it hard to live day to day and make ends meet. - MAM I praise and thank the teacher for reporting the mother who sold her daughters into prostitution. To all teachers, it is your duty to report such things. – Devan, Batu Caves

> Safe deposit boxes

Most banks in smaller towns do not provide safe deposit boxes. In the event of flood or fire, people’s valuables like jewellery, cash, passport and important documents will not be lost if these are kept in safe deposit boxes. Bank Negara should see to it that customers in small towns get such services too. – CT Tan

> Guilty as well

It’s not only the “monster mum” who should be punished but also the customers!

> Price of a call

At 11.59am, my friend called me from his land line. The call lasted 11 seconds and the telco charged me 99 sen for it. Is that a reasonable charge?

> Parking woes

Double parking is still happening along Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields. DBKL should work harder to solve double parking problems. I suggest removing the parking spots on one side to let more vehicles pass and reduce traffic jam. – KL Passenger
