Three syndicates busted
New substance NPS among drugs seized in a series of raids
PETALING JAYA: Drug pushers thought they were clever by hiding over RM200,000 worth of drugs in drink sachets but that wasn’t enough to prevent the authorities from knocking on their door.
The group, which had been operating for less than a year, was busted during a series of raids conducted by the Selangor Narcotics Crime Investigation Division.
The raid on Nov 14 saw five arrests, including a 17-year-old girl who is believed to be the girlfriend of one of the drug pushers.
Drugs identified as NPS (new psychoactive substances) were found during the raid, cleverly hidden in drink packages and sachets.
It is believed that they marketed the drugs using private groups via messaging apps and had their own customer base and friends who helped to move the product.
The source also said that there was a possibility that the drugs were manufactured locally, with the raw materials purchased elsewhere.
NPS is still relatively new among local drug users. Investigators said the effect of the drugs is slightly more powerful than syabu.
Selangor Narcotics Crime Investigation Division deputy chief Supt Sundralingam Rajassundram said that the department is cracking down on pushers.
“If you cut off the supply, the demand drops,” he said.
Supt Sundralingam also said that two other drug syndicates which dealt in heroin and ganja respectively, had been busted.
