Yeoh declines CEC offer

Selangor Speaker to devote time to existing commitments

-

PETALING JAYA: Selangor state assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh has declined her co-opted appointment into DAP’s central executive committee (CEC).

Yeoh said she would like to devote her time and attention to existing commitments.

“After giving it much thought, I have decided to decline the offer.

“I believe the party has more than enough leaders who can serve in the CEC,” she said.

The Subang Jaya assemblywoman said she remains committed to her current roles in the party.

Presently, Yeoh is the Wanita DAP national vice-chairman, Selangor DAP vice-chairman and Selangor Wanita DAP chairman.

“I wish to thank the CEC for their decision to co-opt me,” she added.

Yeoh was appointed into the CEC at the first meeting on Nov 12.

In a statement yesterday, DAP secretary- general Lim Guan Eng said Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy would replace Yeoh.

The CEC co-opted Dr Ramasamy into the CEC as an ordinary member during its second meeting on Wednesday.

Dr Ramasamy will be put in charge of The Marhaen (ordinary people) Committee to give expression to the voiceless, weak and dispossessed in Malaysia.

DAP announced the changes to its appointed CEC members following the party’s latest re-election on Nov 12.

Lim, who is also Penang Chief Minister, said DAP would wait for the auditor, sanctioned by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) , to submit a report on the successful re-election of the CEC.

“DAP has 60 days to submit a report to the ROS,” he said.

Lim also announced that DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang would remain as the party’s parliamentary leader.

“The CEC also reaffirmed the position of Dr Chen Man Hin as party life adviser,” he said.
