PETALING JAYA: Things are certainly looking up for bowlers Puteri Nurul Dini Mohd Faudzi and Gillian Lim.

Nurul Dini of Kedah and Sarawakian Gillian are expected to make the national youth team after some outstanding results at last week’s Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championships in Kuching.

The duo helped Malaysia sweep all the five golds in the girls’ competition. Malaysia eventually emerged overall champions for the first time with six golds, six silvers and two bronzes.

Individually, Nurul Dini captured two golds in the All-Events and Masters while Gillian triumphed in the singles.

They also combined to clinch the doubles title before teaming up with Najwa Nazirah Mohd Amir and Nur Aina Kamalia Abdul Ayub to claim the team gold.

Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) general manager Maradona Chok said Nurul Dini and Gillian did well to justify MTBC’s faith in them.

“Coach Wendy (Chai) was very pleased with their performances. Nurul Dini and Gillian certainly passed their test with distinction.

“We will propose their names to the selection committee to call them up to join the national youth team.”

Prior to Asian Schools meet, Gillian’s notable success was winning the mixed-field Under-18 category at the 2015 Thailand Open. As for Nurul Dini, she was the doubles gold medallist at the Asean Schools Games in Singapore in July.

There are currently eight players in the national youth team. Besides Najwa, the others are Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik, Nur Amirah Auni Azman, Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal, Nur Ameerahusna Aznel, Anis Shazlin Zulkhisham, Qistina Zainal Fitri and Nerosha Keligit.
