RM35,000 and wheelchairs for two charitable homes

KUANTAN: Two charitable homes here can now care for their long-term residents with peace of mind, thanks to Star Foundation.

Rumah Kebajikan Orang-Orang Tua Seri Permai manager Mohamad Fauzi Ramli said the five wheelchairs and RM20,000 contribution would go a long way towards caring for the 21 male residents at the home.

“All the residents are Muslim senior citizens, many of whom were left behind by their families,” he said.

“They are mostly senile and sickly. Some are bedridden, so the wheelchairs will come in handy in a big way.

“We will also use the RM20,000 donation for our daily expenses. Medicine is the highest expense for the home.”

Mohamad Fauzi said that since the home relied solely on donations from the public and private companies, the support from Star Foundation was “most welcome”.

“I am very grateful. As we are aiming to expand our facilities, we hope there will be more assistance in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal Kuantan received a RM15,000 donation from the foundation.

Its supervisor James Perumal said the money would go towards the costs to run the home.

“We started in 1997 and there are currently 25 residents of different races staying at our home. The monthly costs can come up to between RM17,000 and RM18,000.

“This contribution will certainly help with our rental, salary for our staff, medicine and food for the residents,” he said.

The handing over of the wheelchairs and cheques was witnessed by Kuantan MCA Wanita chief Tee Choon Ser.

Tee commended Star Foundation for its generosity, saying that more donations from the corporate sector would be appreciated for charitable NGOs in Kuantan.

“These NGOs depend a lot on the public for their continued operation. It will be good for the reputation of corporations if more of them come forward and aid these NGOs.

“On my part, I will recommend more NGOs and individuals who need aid,” she said.

Star Foundation is the charitable arm of Star Media Group, aimed at raising, receiving and administering funds for various causes to assist organisations with their operating expenses, upgrading of facilities and running of existing programmes.
