KUALA LUMPUR: Devastated by the sudden loss of their loving father, a family is searching for witnesses and the person who crashed into him and left him for dead by the roadside.

During a press conference at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department, Chor Keng Yoke and her siblings could not hold back their tears as they recalled the moment a stranger told them that their father, Chor Ah Kyw, was involved in a road accident.

“Initially, we did not believe him – until he cited my dad’s motorcycle registration number on the licence that he always carried with him,” Keng Yoke said, adding that the stranger got her number from her father’s mobile phone.

She said Nov 8 started like any other when her 78-year-old father hailed a taxi to go to a hot springs area near Jalan KL-Ipoh.

Keng Yoke said her father had been going to the popular spot two to three times a week for the past three years.

“He believed the waters soothed his rashes, which he developed due to his allergic reaction to seafood.

“Despite his allergy, our father loved his seafood and he’d seek relief at the hot spring whenever a rash broke out,” she said.

Ah Kyw was believed to have been knocked down by a vehicle as he waited for a taxi to return home after his bath.

Keng Yoke said she received the bad news at around 1pm. “I rushed from my sister’s home in Shah Alam and found my father by the roadside. He was dead,” she added.

What she found unbearable was that the family did not know what actually happened. “Nobody has come forward with information,” she said.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong urged anyone with information about the accident to get in touch with the department.

“The family wants justice,” he said. “This can only be served if witnesses come forward,” Chong said, adding that anyone with knowledge about the accident should call the department at 03-2203 3888.
