Najib: Plan for future generations
PM urges BN leaders to provide younger Malaysians with proper direction
MELAKA: Barisan Nasional leaders must be selfless and help plan a better future for the coming generations, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said current leaders shouldn’t think about themselves and ignore the needs of the Generation Y.
“We must stop thinking of ourselves and leave the younger Malaysians without a proper direction.
“Barisan leaders should look into ways of providing the best for our children and grandchildren through solid and effective plans for the future,” he said after opening the Gen Y programme at Dataran 1Malaysia in Klebang, here yesterday.
Najib said the future generations would be the beneficiaries of the country’s leadership. Hence, the current leaders should think about the future generations when they carry out development programmes.
“That’s why I implemented the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) initiative with the aim of focusing on preparing the country for the young generation.
“The Barisan government does not make empty promises, but implements its plans for the young generation,” he added.
Najib said his administration has also carried out various initiatives for the young generation which was included in Budget 2018.
“We give out BR1M (1Malaysia People’s Aid), the student’s card for university undergraduates to buy books and so on. We do this for the current and future generations.
“We do things for those coming in the next 10 to 20 years. That is why we are building the High Speed Rail (HSR) for the future generation, and around 2022 (it will be operational).”
He added that the HSR would have a big impact on the lives of future generations, especially around the station areas, including Melaka, and would shorten the travel time, besides improving the economy of the local residents in the areas involved.
While the current leaders and Barisan government were preparing the country for the future, he said the past leaders should give their full support to the efforts made to ensure these would give the best results.
Najib also said the country’s young generation needed to have a dream to be successful one day although others might laugh at them.
He added that individuals like Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma and Apple Computer founder Steve Wozniak were clear examples of relentless hard work that made their dream come through.
“Last time, who would believe that Jack Ma, a teacher, and Wozniak who was once expelled from university, could realise their dreams. But they had dared to dream big and follow their dream.
“If we have a dream and work hard to achieve that dream, we will succeed,” he said.
