KUALA LUMPUR: Next month’s Umno general assembly will focus on instilling a winning mentality among the party’s 3.6 million members as they gear up for the 14th general election.

As its last assembly before GE14, the party meeting from Dec 5-9 would also aim to convince all Malaysians that Barisan Nasional was their best choice, said party secretary- general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

“We want to showcase our accomplishments as we are a party not only for the Malays,” he said at a media conference here.

“We realise that non-Malays are looking at Umno to serve as an umbrella for all the races.

“Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazan, Iban and other races have placed their hopes on Umno,” he added.

Tengku Adnan said the debates and motions would focus on Umno’s GE14 preparations.

“Our president’s speeches will also be geared towards GE14,” said Tengku Adnan.

The Umno assembly will take place at the Putra World Trade Centre, with party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak holding a closed door briefing with delegates at 2pm on Dec 5.

Vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will then open the assemblies of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri Wings in the evening.

The three wings will hold their assemblies the next day on Dec 6, and Najib will open the assembly on Dec 7.

There will be 5,739 delegates attending the assembly.
