2,000 Asean youths to gather for discourse

-

PETALING JAYA: More than 2,000 youths from Asean will gather for the Kuala Lumpur Youth International Discourse (KLYID) 2017 on Sunday.

Organised by Umno Youth in the run-up to the Umno general assembly, the one-day event is to help youths tackle future challenges, which range from securing jobs to not falling prey to social ills.

KLYID head of secretariat Shamil Norsidi said the key focus of the event is to highlight to youths how they can succeed amid the rapid changes in the global and local landscapes.

“For instance, now that McDonald’s has introduced self-service kiosks at their outlets, where do the youths, especially those working as cashiers, go when faced with such scenarios?

“Will they lose their jobs? This will be discussed at our event,” he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is set to give a keynote address at the opening and will touch on the concept of total security in every future scenario.

Students from higher education institutions in Malaysia and other countries are expected to attend the event at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre.

Among the key speakers are Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who will talk about security threats in the 21st century.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will speak on how youths can prepare for the future challenges.
