Flat residents irked over poor maintenance
RESIDENTS of Taman Megah Flats in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, have demanded that the authorities step in to rectify the deplorable conditions there such as overflowing sewers and a broken-down fireman’s lift, Makkal Osai reported.
A. Ponnambalam, a resident there since the flats were built 12 years ago, said the sewers in the area had been overflowing for weeks and the stench was unbearable.
The report also said the flat’s management group had been collecting RM50 monthly from the residents, but the required maintenance work was still lacking.
The residents urged the authorities to intervene to help them resolve the issues.
> A new raid by tax authorities in Tamil Nadu, India, in one of the homes of jailed former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam secretary-general V.K. Sasikala has reportedly unearthed 170 billion rupees (RM10.8bil) in cash, Tamil dailies reported.
Similar raids in over 160 locations statewide, including the homes of associates, have turned up about 14 billion rupees (RM890mil) in undeclared wealth.
Images and videos circulating online show mountains of cash being retrieved from underground chambers in Sasikala’s house.
Sasikala and her family, who came to prominence through her friendship with the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, lost the power struggle to succeed as the chief minister after being convicted of corruption.
