Home for disabled children gets RM25,000 in cash aid

IPOH: A home for disabled children here has received a timely financial boost from Star Foundation to help with its growing expenses.

Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Cacat Ipoh Perak chairman Lok Sau Mui said their current home in Housing Trust here is in need of repairs, which can now be tended to with part of the RM25,000 contributi­on.

“We have a leaking roof and the walls at the back of the home are damaged. All these need fixing.

“Apart from these, our monthly expenses can come up to about RM10,000 for just food and utility bills.

“We will also use the money for the constructi­on of our new home in Pasir Pinji, which is expected to be ready in two years’ time,” she said during a presentati­on ceremony witnessed by Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon at the home here yesterday.

There are currently at least 50 residents at the home.

The associatio­n is a non-profit organisati­on founded in 1999, providing shelter and care to people with disabiliti­es.

Some of the residents are also in the elderly age group, having stayed there since they were children.

Star Foundation is the charitable arm of Star Media Group, aimed at raising, receiving and giving out funds for various causes to assist organisati­ons with their operating expenses, upgrading of facilities and running of existing programmes.
