Guard jailed 12 years for grooming and raping teen

PUTRAJAYA: A security guard who liked to groom young girls over social media was slapped with 12 years’ jail for raping one of them.

The schoolgirl was just one month shy of her 17th birthday when she was attacked by Satah Nasil Ibrahim, 39, in a hotel room off Jalan Pudu in Kuala Lumpur.

The Special Court for Sexual Crimes against Children convicted Satah after he pleaded guilty to raping the girl at 5.40pm on Nov 22.

According to the facts, he met the schoolgirl on Facebook and they continued making contact on Yahoo messenger.

The girl eventually agreed to Satah picking her up at a bus stop near her home in Klang to hang out around Times Square mall in Kuala Lumpur.

He then took her to a nearby hotel, and when they entered the room, he stripped her and took off his clothes, too.

According to the statement of facts, the girl fought against Satah, kicking him, but he forced her down, slapped her and raped her.

He later dropped her off at the same bus stop, where a friend picked her up.

The girl was unwilling to tell her family what happened fearing she would be punished but she confided in her friend. The friend later told the victim’s grandmother, prompting the family to take the girl to the hospital for a medical checkup and encourage her to report the crime.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Izzat Fauzan said the accused’s modus operandi was to groom victims over social media and rape them if the opportunity arose.

He said that Satah pleaded guilty but the court needed to consider the safety of the public and children in sentencing.

“The court needs to hand down a deterrent sentence to show him (Satah) and Malaysia that such crimes are unacceptable,” said Muhammad Izzat.

Satah, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency, saying he had a child in kindergarten.

Sessions Court judge Yong Zarida Sazali, who sentenced Satah to 12 years’ jail, ordered he be given two strokes of the cane as well.
