Remand extended for Selangor MB’s nephew
PUTRAJAYA: The nephew of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will remain under the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission’s (MACC) custody after the magistrate’s court here extended his remand for another three days.
Magistrate Norhidayati Mohammad Nasroh allowed MACC’s request for more time to investigate allegations of the 34yearold’s involvement in illegal sand mining activities in Selangor.
The commission was, however, allowed only three days instead of the requested seven days.
A 67yearold company director, who was detained along with Azmin’s nephew and two others on Nov 30, also had his remand extended until tomorrow.
Their remand was supposed to expire yesterday.
Magistrate Norhidayati allowed the two others – a 41yearold company director and a 45yearold site manager – to be freed on RM15,000 and RM10,000 bail respectively.
MACC is investigating claims that the four had raked in huge profits from illegal sand mining activities in Selangor since 2014.
Following a tipoff on the activities, MACC officers raided a company in Sungai Long last week.
As part of the investigation, several lorries and bank accounts with cash amounting to RM4mil were seized.
