Three groups lodge police reports against Zaid

KUALA LUMPUR: While Datuk Zaid Ibrahim says he will not apologise for his tweets about the Sultan of Selangor, Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos has been arrested for his threats against the DAP leader over the matter.

After he attended the Umno general assembly here, the Sungai Besar Umno division chief arrived at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at about 9.25pm yesterday. He was led into the station in handcuffs.

“I have been arrested ... in relation to the Zaid Ibrahim issue,” Jamal said in a WhatsApp message earlier.

On Friday, Jamal said he would “hammer Zaid’s head” if the authorities did not arrest him over his remarks that allegedly insulted Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

In Kota Baru, Zaid, who was once law minister, said he did not break the law when he tweeted about the Sultan believed to be in response to the Ruler’s statements in an exclusive interview with The Star.

“This is a small matter that need not be exaggerated,” he said.

“I admit my tweets but what wrong have I done that I need to apologise?”

The former Umno member, how- ever, said he was ready to cooperate with police investigations.

Meanwhile, three groups – Jaringan Melayu Malaysia, Persatuan Penduduk Taman Putra and Persatuan Kebajikan San Chuan Cheras – have lodged police reports against Zaid in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
