PETALING JAYA: Avid runner Evelyn Ang, who was among three hit by a car during a marathon, continues to fight for her life as her condition remains critical.

Ang, 44, suffered severe head injuries in the crash and is still undergoing surgery, according to a friend at Hospital Sungai Buloh yesterday.

“She was brought here for surgery after initially being rushed to Klang Hospital for treatment,” said her friend who wished to be known only as Avis.

Amiruddin Hamid, 37, and Ahmad Hadafi Jus, 42, were the two others also hit in the crash. They suffered head and ankle injuries but their conditions were not as serious as Ang's and they are reported to be stable.

The three were hit at around 4.30am on Sunday around Jalan Kapar Batu 2, just as they were at the 14km mark for the Klang City International Marathon 2017.

Ang, who is an ultra-marathon runner, was one of the pacers for the marathon.

A pacer is an experienced runner who sets a steady pace so participants can finish the race within a particular time.

North Klang OCPD Asst Comm Mazelan Paijan said police are investigating the case for reckless driving.

“The driver, who was arrested after the incident, had his urine tested for drugs and it came back negative.

“He was also cleared of being drunk while driving,” he said when contacted on Sunday.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Klang City International Marathon organisers said that Ang suffered a cranial fracture and bleeding in the brain.

“We will do our best to assist in this incident.

“We are in touch with the authorities.

“Together, let us pray for our Klang City International Marathon 2017 pacer Evelyn Ang.

“Hope she will safely go through the critical moment with a speedy recovery,” it said.
