-

IPOH: Three siblings, including a pair of eight-year-old twins, were killed when a trailer crashed into the back of their sports utility vehicle (SUV) in a five-vehicle pile-up in Jalan Baling-Kuala Kangsar, near MRSM Lenggong in Gerik.

Gerik OCPD Supt Ismail Che Isa said the twins and their 22-year-old sister were killed on the spot during the 11am incident yesterday.

He said their parents were also seriously injured and were being warded at the Taiping Hospital.

“The family from Terengganu was believed to be travelling to Kuala Kangsar for a holiday. Two people in a multi-purpose vehicle sustained light injuries,” he said.

Supt Ismail said the trailer was believed to have lost control and crashed into four vehicles that were waiting at a traffic light junction.

“We believe the trailer’s brakes malfunctioned. It first hit the SUV before crashing into the other vehicles.

“Investigations are still ongoing,” he said, adding that the trailer driver’s statement had been taken and he could be charged with reckless driving causing death.

According to sources, the siblings’ father is in critical condition while their mother has regained consciousness.

It is believed that the family was in Kedah earlier to fetch the 22-yearold nursing student.
