Stranded Chinese national looking for his companions

KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese national Zhao Jin Tai had big dreams of coming to Kuala Lumpur to earn extra income for his family to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Zhao, who comes from Handan city in Hebei, was strapped for cash as he had been unemployed for some time and adverse weather conditions had affected his crops.

The stars seemed aligned for Zhao to realise his dream of a happy Chinese New Year when he arrived at KLIA2 on Dec 6 with three companions.

His contacts in Malaysia had already secured him a job as a construction worker.

However, the nightmare started when the 59-year-old and his companions went through Customs check.

As the airport was crowded, an immigration officer directed Zhao to a different queue from his three companions.

Since then, Zhao has been separated from his companions, one of whom is his younger brother Zhao Jin Jie.

His other companions are Liu Shao Feng and Wang Shao Zhi, the latter whose sister arranged for their jobs as construction workers.

To make matters worst, Zhao left his mobile phone in his luggage, which his brother had taken.

With no Malaysian currency and no means of communicating with his companions, Zhao had to sleep in the airport and on the streets for a couple of days.

Finally, a kind-hearted taxi driver took him to a DAP service centre to seek assistance.

“For those few days, I had to rely on the kindness of strangers to give me bread and water. Some gave me money as well,” he said.

“I’m grateful to have met Good Samaritans,” said Zhao. Anyone with information about his companions can call 017-318 8771.
