Hua Zong: Poll respondent­s want road in the right direction

THE Chinese character of the year is lu (road), according to a poll conducted by Chinese guilds and associatio­ns, Sin Chew Daily reported.

It said 28,887 people took part in the poll and 8,795 of the respondent­s picked that word.

It added that 8,349 participan­ts picked lei (tired) while 2,379 chose you (worry).

Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Malaysia (Hua Zong) president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah announced the results at a function on Sunday.

Pheng said the winning choice of the word “road” reflected that many people hoped to have a better way forward and an apt direction for the future.

Last year, the Chinese character of the year was tan (greedy) while ku (bitter) was the top choice for 2015.

> A jobless man from Taiwan allegedly burned 30 NT$1,000 notes (about RM4,074) to protest his mother’s nagging over his meagre earnings, Guang Ming Daily reported.

The 35-year-old man burned the notes in front of a fast-food outlet in Miaoli County recently.

The workers there tried to stop him but failed.So, they called the police. However, the man left before police reached the scene.

They managed to trace him and are now investigat­ing the incident.

> A woman claimed that her married boyfriend tried to end their relationsh­ip by threatenin­g to expose their sex video if she refused to part ways, China Press reported.

The 38-year-old woman from Klang, Selangor, said she started dating the 52-year-old businessma­n three years ago.

However, their relationsh­ip turned sour when he found out that she was pregnant.

He told her to undergo an abortion if she wanted to continue their relationsh­ip, and she did so.

However, he tried to end their relationsh­ip.

The woman claimed she lodged a police report in February but there have been no developmen­ts since then.
