PETALING JAYA: Adam Khalid (pic) has set his sights on more podium finishes at the FIA Formula 4 South- East Asia ( F4 SEA) Championship fuelled by Petron Corporation.

The Malaysian youngster surprised everyone when he came in fourth overall in the second leg of the F4 SEA Championship held at the Clark International Speedway in the Philippines.

In the six races held in October, Adam placed fourth in the opening two races and was third in Race 3.

“It was a wonderful feeling getting on the podium after only my third race.”

The 19- year- old skipped the opening event in Sepang due to prior commitments and now wants to make up for lost time.

“I was sad to miss the Sepang race as it was one of the support events for the final Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix. It would have been nice to have it there.

“Having had my first taste of a podium finish has whetted my appetite for more victories,” said Adam.

In the Philippines, Adam was on his way to a second podium finish in Race 4 when he made a mistake on Turn 3 of the final lap, allowing Thailand’s Kane Shepherd to close in.

As he tried to shut the opening, Shepherd rammed into Adam. The crash affected Adam’s subsequent performances and he was only place fifth in the final two races of the weekend.

In the inaugural season last year, there were six different champions – Daniel Frost of Singapore in Sepang, India’s Akash Gowda at Clark International Speedway, Indonesia’s Presley Martono at Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia, Australia’s Jordan Love in Sepang, New Zealand’s Faine Kahia at Buriram United International Circuit in Thailand and Malaysia’s Isyraf Danish Mohd Ghazali in Sepang.

For the event championship, points are awarded in order of a driver’s finishing position.

First place gives you one point, second two points, third is three and so on. The objective is to get the lowest number of points.
