Five perish in road crash

Infant among five in family killed in collision between a car and an express bus near Segamat.

SEGAMAT: An infant was among five family members who died in an accident involving an express bus and a car along Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban here.

Six people, including the baby, were believed to be inside the car when the crash happened at 6.10pm yesterday.

It was believed that the collision happened during a downpour.

Segamat OCPD Supt Raub Selamat said four of the victims died at the scene while the baby passed away at Segamat Hospital.

Another victim was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

He said the incident happened when the car driver, who was heading to Segamat from Labis, was believed to have lost control of the vehicle before veering into the opposite lane and crashing into the express bus.

Supt Raub said 14 people from the express bus, including the driver, were unhurt.

The bus was heading to Segamat from the Larkin Bus Terminal in Johor Baru.

“We are working to identify the victims in the car,” he added.

Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue station chief Mohd Aizad Mamat said firemen received a distress call about the incident at 6.11pm.

Seven firemen were deployed to the scene to pull out the victims from inside the car.
