Lexis Hotel fetes 38 kids from welfare home to an early treat
PORT DICKSON: Children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Yatim and Miskin Wawasan, invited to an early Christmas do at the Lexis Hibiscus Hotel near here, were awestruck when they saw a nearly 80-feet tall Christmas tree adorned with 10,000 baubles. Along with the trinkets are 69,000 LED lights beamed up with rainbow colours at the hotel’s entrance.
The 38 children, aged betwen four and 19, kept staring, fascinated, at the big tree made out of galvanised steel.
They cheered when Lexis Group president Mandy Chew Siok Cheng pressed a button to light it up.
Hotel staff, many of whom were dressed as Santarinas, added to the merriment by singing Christmas carols.
Chew said the Lexis Group management and staff were delighted to celebrate the special occasion with children from the home.
“We truly enjoyed spending time with them and hope they too had a great time,” she said.
Chew said the almost 30-feet in diameter tree took 400-man hours to assemble.
After the tree lighting ceremony, Chew and her team ushered the children to the Horizon Deck where they were treated to a buffet spread that included various appetizers, roulade of turkey and barbequed chicken.
Home’s founder Paul Jagatheesan thanked the hotel group, comprising Lexis Hibiscus, Grand Lexis and Lexis PD, for the treat.
“At our home, we make it a point to ensure the children get quality care,” he said.
“We also ensure they receive proper education, medical and other needs and lived in a healthy environment,” Jagatheesan said, adding that the 10-year-old home housed children from single par- ents and poor and dysfunctional families.
Chew later presented ang pows and goodie bags to the children. She also gave a mock cheque for RM9,800 to Jagatheesan.
