COMPANY FOUNDER SCORES DOUBLE WIN AT MCY AWARDS
THE sister of Prof Dr Srimala Sreekantan, the Malaysian female scientist famed for an invention that uses air purifiers to convert pollutants into harmless molecules, won an award in the Commercial Deal category at the 2017 Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) Awards and won Best Company Pitch For Angel On The Plane Program at the Global Entrepreneurship Community Summit.
Sreelaththa Sreekantan, who is managing director of Anano Sphere, a company that markets her famous sister’s invention of a liquid protection that can keep surfaces protected from volatile organisms, had started the company in 2012.
The first award recognises her company for its success in commercialising her sister’s invention which was developed by Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2006.
It also recognised the company for its potential in creating an economical impact for the country.
Sreelaththa and another co-founder had self funded their single line assembly plant entirely from the company’s sales revenue.
Crediting the international recognition her sister had gained overseas in the scientific community for one of the reasons behind the company’s success, Sreelaththa said the company’s product had attracted the interest of distributors in Europe where her sister had won her awards.
Now that she has plans to expand, having another win in the pitching category would be another boon to her fund raising mission.
Sreelaththa is looking for individual investors for future development plans and hopes her win will attract the necessary interest.
Her company product is widely used in the healthcare, hospitality and food industry in Europe.
